Private Gardens Tour Orlando: Lake Lawsona Fern Creek Historic Neighborhood
Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM (EDT)
‘Private Gardens of Historic Orlando Featuring
Lawsona Fern Creek Historic Neighborhood’
On Sunday, April 13, 2014 the Lake Lawsona Fern Creek Historic Neighborhood Association will present their inaugural tour of “The Private Gardens of Historic Orlando Featuring Lake Lawsona Fern Creek Historic Neighborhood”. Since 2000, this event has been a biennial tour held in the Lake Eola Heights Historic District Neighborhood. As this is our first year hosting the garden tour, we will build on what has become a very popular feature on Orlando’s calendar of gardening events.
The tour is designed to provide our guests an opportunity to experience some of the charming, hidden places found within our neighborhood. Take your time and stroll along beautiful brick streets dappled by sunlight that has been filtered through a veil of oak boughs and Spanish moss. This is an opportunity to enjoy some truly unique and enchanting garden spaces in the neighborhood and actually speak with those who are responsible for their creation.
In an effort to blend art with natural beauty, the Central Florida Watercolor Society plein air artists will be back for this year’s tour too! Artists will be painting in some of the gardens and in Dickson Azalea Park. What could better compliment the beauty of nature than a fine painting in a natural setting? Paintings featuring the gardens on display will be available for sale along with some other originals by the artists. Student musicians from the Howard Middle School Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts will be perfoming in several of the gardens and in Dickson Azalea Park to add another note of enjoyment to the experience. Stop by and check out the fabulous vendors at "Garden Central" at Mayor Carl T. Langford Neighborhood Center. There will be beautiful plants, pottery, and unique garden ornaments for sale by local merchants.
The self-guided tour begins at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 5:00 pm. Tickets will be $10.00 if purchased in advance and $15.00 on the day of the tour. You may purchase tickets(cash only) in advance starting March 13th at the Publix at 400 East Central Blvd., or online at https://lakelawsonagardentour.eventbrite.com
On the day of the tour, tickets can be purchased at ‘Garden Central” located at Mayor Carl T. Langford Neighborhood Center at 1808 East Central Blvd., beginning at 12:30 p.m.
There will be a total of 9 gardens and one home open for tours in addition to the charming “Little House” on Celia Lane that has been home to Girl Scouts for the past 73 years. You may visit as many as you wish.
Proceeds from this event will be used to fund beautification and other special events held throughout the year in our neighborhood. Hope to see you there!
