Event Details

Ricky Jay is a world-renowned magician, author, historian and actor -- and a performer who regularly provokes astonishment from even the most jaded audiences. DECEPTIVE PRACTICE traces Jay's achievements and influences, from his apprenticeship at age 4 with his grandfather, to such now-forgotten legends as Al Flosso, Slydini, Cardini and his primary mentors, Dai Vernon and Charlie Miller.  Directed by Molly Bernstein.

Indie Memphis

Through diverse year-round programming, a world-class annual festival, and ongoing efforts to include new voices, new media, and new audiences, Indie Memphis is an ArtsMemphis funded 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which enriches, inspires, and connects the Memphis community while cultivating interest in, and development of, independent film.

The organization's the 17th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival, presented by Duncan-Williams, Inc., takes place October 30 - November 2 in Midtown Memphis' Overton Square, home to more than a dozen locally-owned restaurants and bars. The festival's screening venues, which include the Playhouse on the Square, the Circuit Playhouse, the new Hattiloo Theatre, and three screens at Malco's Studio on the Square, are all within a couple of blocks of each other, creating an energetic community-friendly atmosphere unlike any other on the festival circuit.
