Preakness at the Piazza - MS Society Benefit
- Charity & Causes
- The Piazza, Philadelphia PA
Why attend this event?: Four years ago a young Philly professional was diagnosed with MS in his early 30's. A group of friends gathered at a Fairmount bar to rasie money for his care via an informal beer pong tournament. Each year, the fundraiser grew larger and more friends became aware of how this disease strikes at a young age. In 2013, this group of over 100 young professionals partnered with the National MS Society in Center City to raise more money for the cause by throwing the inagural Preakness at the Piazza benefit event.
About the Preakness at the Piazza Event: Preakness at the Piazza is a Spring Fashion party held on Saturday May 18th at the Piazza in Northern Liberties, raising money for Multiple Sclerosis.
This 21 and up event hosts all you can eat (Burgoo, BBQ, and other Derby-inspired fare) and drink (Titos Handmade Vodka, Mint Julips, & local Philly brews) with a viewing of the 138th running of the Preakness displayed on a 40 foot outdoor screen surrounded by loads of entertainment.
Dress Attire: Girls in Derby Hats and Guys in Bow Ties! (think Kentucky Derby getup). Check out a few ideas here. Don't have Derby attire? No problem, put on your trendy Spring outfit and join one of the most unique parties of the Spring.
Entertainment all night long: After the race, continue eats and drinks to Philadelphia's own DJ Royale (feautured on VH1's "Master of the Mix). DJ Royale will be spinning throughout this Open Bar event and many suprises are in store, including: raffles, silent auctions, and local celebrities. NCAA bracket get busted? No problem, bring your cornhole boards for a tailgate-style tournament against your neighbors.
Where does my money go?: 100% of the net proceeds of this event benefit Multiple Sclerosis education, wellness programs, and research initiatives. The MS Society is generously providing volunteers to help run the event. They've thought of everything - if you don't have cash, credit cards accepted at the door.
