Recent developments in open source software make it surprisingly easy to apply machine learning to find patterns in your data. Machine learning combines concepts from mathematics, statistics and neuroscience to create computer algorithms for automatically classifying and organizing your information. In this hands-on class, we will cover the concepts, strengths and weaknesses of several techniques and use Oliver Grisel's scikit-learn to create a predictive analytics backend for an example web service.
Roy Hyunjin Han runs CrossCompute, bringing the power of computational science to the public sector. Our activities are to work with agencies to understand their needs, integrate tools from researchers to meet those needs and build local capacity through written tutorials and hands-on training in large-scale data analysis. Quality of life is a human right. City agencies and citizens should have access to powerful analytics systems without paying millions of dollars.
