Event Details

This April, Jimmie Briggs, award winning journalist, educator, lecturer and social entrepreneur will be a speaker for the Athena Power Talk Series. The creator of the “Man Up Campaign” that mobilizes people in 25 countries to stop violence against the women and girls in their communities, Briggs was selected as GQ Magazine's “Better Men, Better World” winner in 2010, and most recently received a Medal of Distinction from Barnard College. With the eye of an intrepid storyteller, and the compassion that comes from bearing witness to far-flung tragedies in the world, Briggs is the author of Innocents Lost: When Child Soldiers Go To War, and is currently working on his second book, Blood Work; a personal memoir and exploration of manhood in the 21st century.

Athena Center for Leadership Studies

The Athena Center for Leadership Studies was established in fall 2009 and is dedicated to the advancement of inspired and courageous women leaders around the world.

When more women are leaders, we change society’s understanding of what a leader looks like, how they operate and how they respond to social, political and economic needs.  When more women are leaders -- particularly when they are powerful, visionary and strategic ones -- then communities and organizations are more innovative, productive and successful. When more women are leaders, we raise the aspirations of women and girls around the world.
