This retreat is a special 2-week post-FX event that will feature some really great national and international instructors: Ruby, Luke, Red and some others (yet to be named) taking the opportunity to work together and develop new material while we're still inspired from fusion exchange.
There are only 30 spots available for this unique opportunity to work hands-on with these amazing teachers.
Then we will test new material out on the Denver dance scene the following weekend at the first Morning After Workshop: Smörgåsbord edition, a multi-track workshop where the teaching pairs are not normal combinations you'll see everywhere.
The whole point of this is to try to work with someone you don't normally work with to create new material.
We'll have small-group sessions throughout the day that will focus mainly on building material and finding ways of working together, then in the evenings around dinner or other events we'll have discussion sessions on meta-dance topics that affect our dance scene: Marketing, Scene-Building, Promotion, Event Management, Volunteers, Working with Organizers. These will be small-group roundtable discussions that focus on topics that are not necessarily in-class material, but determine whether you can do your job effectively.
We will have up to six featured instructors who will be developing specific classes during the week that will be taught the Morning After Workshop: Smörgåsbord edition. This means that each of them will be teaching (4) classes over the course of Saturday and Sunday. They will pick from paying teachers in attendance who they'll be working with to teach a class that has been workshopped in our sessions during the week.
Paying instructors will participate in the Morning After Workshop as "ringers", volunteers, DJs and etc with the goal of working together as a team to create the best experience we can for the people in denver.
Other teacher retreats charge hundreds of dollars in order to do a similar format, we have decided to keep costs lower so that we are covering costs for our featured instructors. This will help pay for food, transport and ideally, keep the costs of running the weekend to a minimum.
What does this weekend get you? It means you end up getting 6 days of workshops and a chance to interface with high-level instructors for under $200. This will be a unique experience that will help you to become a better teacher for your own dance scene, as well as a chance to work with people you otherwise might not have access to in a mentor/colleague capacity.
Are you an organizer who is looking for great instructors? (maybe even one who has to teach in your own dance scene?) This is a perfect opportunity to try out instructors you might not have seen, but could end up being just the attitude and teaching style that your event needs?
