Warp x Weft: Textile 101:
Warp x Weft Workshop Description
Be a textile know-it-all! In this class we'll detail the process from fiber to textile, show you loads of samples and dig into the terminology that will deeply improve your experience as a sewer. We'll start by discussing woven fabrics vs. knit fabrics and how each of these are constructed. Next, we'll demystify the major fiber types through a step-by-step introduction to cotton, wool, silk, linen and their man-made counterparts. During the class you'll put together a useful swatch kit to reference in the future whenever a little refresher is desired.
This class is perfect for anyone wanting to improve their knowledge of textiles no matter the trade.
About the Instructor
Geana Sieburger is the Marketing Director of Britex Fabrics, instigator of Pop-up Britex and the teacher of Warp x Weft: Textile 101 workshops. Her love for textiles started early on as the granddaughter of a designer and seamstress in Brazil. It continued through an interdisciplinary education at California College of the Arts, which led to her previous four year long position as Assistant Buyer of Britex Fabrics. Geana is also the owner of GDS Cloth Goods, a sewing and design studio highlighting her deep appreciation for textiles.
Thanks to Gravel & Gold for hosting our last pop-up!
When & Where
A San Francisco landmark since 1952, Britex is a must-visit for designers, sewers, do-it-yourself-ers and anyone seeking creative inspiration. The four-story, family-run store contains fabrics, laces, ribbons, notions and buttons from around the world.
With our workshops and tours, we hope to encourage our local makers to make well and be proud of their designs. It is also our goal to be a point of social connection and educational resource for San Francisco Bay Area designers, businesses and fabric lovers.
