How can poets and open mics build and maintain a brand through social media?

This is the question that Christopher K.P. Brown, founder of Poetry247.com, will answer on Sunday, August 3rd. He will speak about social media's impact on today's poetry community.

Social media has had a major impact on how we communicate with each other and how we find information. One website that has capitalized on this age of social media is Poetry247.com which allows people to find spoken word poetry events in their city, or cities they may be traveling to soon. Sunday, August 3 the founder of Poetry247.com, Christopher K.P. Brown, will hold a workshop on the impact Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media has made on the current poetry community by allowing for easier networking opportunities between poets, hosts, and potential customers and fans. He will discuss how individual local poetry scenes have now become a part of an international poetry community due to today's social media.

Some of the subjects that will be discussed include:

-How do I increase my followers?
-How do I promote my products/events through social media?
-How do I promote myself as an artist through social media while also maintaining a sense of privacy?
-Is it still important to have a website if I'm active on social media?
-How can I use social media to give my fans a better sense of who I am?
-How do I juggle being active on several social media outlets simultaneously?
-How do I transfer social media followers into actual income and opportunities?

*The workshop will occur 3-5PM.
*Attendees are encouraged to bring notebooks, pens, smart phones, and laptops.
*There are only 30 slots for the workshop. Slots will be confirmed upon receipt of payment.
*The early bird fee is $15 (Until July 18th).
*The regular fee is $25 (July 18th - August 1)
*The registration deadline is Friday, August 1st.

Christopher K.P. Brown, a 30 year old spoken word poet, publisher, and event promoter, began writing poetry at the age of 14 in his hometown of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. In 2003 he launched his own poetry website titled www.twopensandlint.com (2 Pens & Lint) which now publishes chapbooks for poets from across the nation. After traveling throughout the South and East coasts for poetry performances Brown realized there needed to be a website that made it easier to find poetry venues. Therefore, in January of 2010, he launched a new website called www.poetry247.com. The site gets about 3,000 visitors per day and it has a strong following on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as well. Currently, the site covers New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and the entire states of Georgia, New Jersey, and South Carolina. Brown's goal is to cover events across the United States within the next year.

Sunday, August 3 poets in the Philadelphia area will have a chance to speak with Brown about how social media has made an impact on his websites, his career as a traveling poet, and the poetry community in general. The majority of the workshop will be based around how poets and open mics can build and maintain a brand through the use of social media.
