In this Open House event, contestants in the national poetry recitation competition, Poetry Out Loud, perform their recitations.
The Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts have partnered with state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. Students compete at a high level - the national winner brings home a $20,000 scholarship.
