Playing for Pups II!

Ultimate Freeze Dance Competition

To Benefit the Animal Rescue League of Boston

North Star has once again agreed to host Playing for Pups to raise money for homeless animals in the Boston area! Playing for Pups II will delight your inner child with a combination of old school games into one mega awesome competition. Ultimate Freeze Dance is Freeze Dance meets Dance-A-Thon and dance floor boundaries are "hot lava". It is an ULTIMATE test of dance stamina, skills, and a will to win it! Dance attire is highly encouraged so dust of those leggings and get your flash dance on!  The rules will be read before the competition which will begin promptly at 4pm.  Check in starts at 3pm giving you plenty of time to grab a beverage and stretch it out before the madness commences. Tickets are $12 in advance $14 at the door.

How to Play

  •                         When the music starts DANCE! You can not stand or dance super slow (unless your doing the robot) your dance pace should be in proportion to the music playing. You are however; allowed one time out to catch your breath after spending some awesome moves. To redeem a time out you’ll need to ask a ref to mark your wrist band prior to leaving the dance floor.  You have five minutes after leaving the dance floor once your time is up you should check back in with the same referee (that's right-this just got real!).
  •                         When the music stops – STOP DANCING! If you move or continue to dance when the music stops you are out, this includes the following scenarios;
  •       If the person you are dancing with or near by player bumps you – you’re both out
  •       If you move and we don’t see it – be honest, that trophy will be tainted if you cheat your way to the top.
  •                          If your hair, clothing, jewelry or other items (what are you wearing???) hanging from your person are moving after the music stops you are still in the game, as long as you don’t make a motion to correct said items.  The same goes for mid air dance moves… If you’re awesome enough to be doing some sweet mid air dance kicks (or maybe just jumping for us lesser skilled folk) when the music stops be sure to stick the landing and you wont be disqualified. If you don’t stick the landing your moves probably aren’t as sweet as you think and you’ll be removed from the dance floor.
  •                        If you stop dancing for a non essential reason and the music is still playing you're out (Dance-A-Thon style). What's an "essential reason" to stop dancing?!
  • Wardrobe issues: let's face it leggings start to bunch after a while, shoe laces come untied etc. You don't need to dance through it! If you need to make an...adjustment...please do so. If however, you are abusing this rule i.e. purposely untying / retying your shoes you will be out (the difference between strategy and cheat town USA).
  •   If you leave the dance floor area for any reason other then a time out you are disqualified (it’s ULTIMATEEEE) all the more reason to invite your wallflower friends to be your hydration buddy for the night!
  •  As contestants get eliminated the dance floor boundaries will shrink.  Don't step on the lines or you'll be disqualified!
  •  After the first hour of the contest there will be a brief half hour intermission for hydration and pee breaks.  Afterwards it goes into sudden death mode.
  •                         During the intermission we will draw 5 tickets from the “second chance to dance” jar.  These individuals will be invited back into the competition (that’s right FRESH LEGS strategize accordingly).
  •                         If you're still in the competition and get picked for a second chance you've just scored a second time out!
  •                         If you look ill our referees reserve the right to remove you from the competition for your own safety.
  •                         If you are dancing in a manner that could be considered harmful to yourself or the people around you, our referees will give you one (and only one) warning before removing you from the (FRIENDLY) competition.
  •                         When you are out you must leave the dance floor and your wrist band will be removed.

Who's Spinning?

DJ Scratch N' Sniff

Will be spinning a special mix of top 40's and electronic dance music just for us!

What Do I Get?

Good Karma!!

All the proceeds for this event will go to benefit the Animal Rescue League of Boston.  These funds will be earmarked for the "Shelter Budget," that means they will be used to care for the animals.  Did you know that the cost to provide vaccines and preventative medical treatments (like dewormers) to one adult cat or dog can cost a shelter about $40 per animal?  Did you also know that it can cost upwards of $60 to feed a shelter dog for a month?  So how does a non federally funded non profit organization like the Animal Rescue League of Boston pay to care for these animals that turn up at their door step?  Donations like yours!!!

Door Prizes!!

During the intermission we will have a drawing for door prizes so stick around and get some free stuffs!!

Other Stuff!!

  • Appetizer deals from North Star!
  •  First prize wins an awesome trophy a Boloco gift card and ARL apparel!
  • Glow braceletts for all (making your dance moves that much better!)
