The second part of this workshop is designed to help with problem solving. The GoMath program begins with context-based situation and moves to the abstract. In this workshop participants will learn strategies to help them do just that. Transitioning from elementary to middle school can be daunting for some children. This transition brings many questions and concerns for both parents and students. Parents can help prepare their children for this milestone by gathering information and staying involved in their education. Early discussions about the changes that can be expected as well as answering any questions that they may have, can also help with this adjustment as well. This workshop will help prepare your child, as well as the parent, on the steps that can be taken prior to the beginning of middle school. It will also focus on the importance of organization and time management during the school year as well as strategies that your child will need to be successful. Presented by John H.  Michael Keany - Educational Leader & Founder of School Leadership 2.0

 Michael Keany - Educational Leader & Founder of School Leadership 2.0

One of the 14 Most Influential People in Education on Long Island - Nassau BOCES

Michael Keany’s most recent venture has been a new full-service web site “School Leadership 2.0” which already has a membership of more than 8100 school leaders across the globe.  SL 2.0 offers a vibrant virtual forum for school leaders to share and learn together.

 

Mr. Keany retired after 34 years in public education.  During that period he served as a science teacher, assistant principal, middle school principal and high school principal in Manhasset.  He has been a principal for a total of 21 years. Mr. Keany has also served for 12 years on the South Huntington Board of Education, 11 of those as Vice President.  He has taught at three metropolitan area colleges.  He served as President of the Nassau County North Shore High School Principals’ Association and is an elected member of the National Headmasters Association.  Mr. Keany was chosen as the Nassau County Administrator of the Year in 1992-3.

 

Most recently, Mr. Keany has been appointed to the School Building Leader Advisory Assessment Committee that had responsibility for the creation of the new assessment tools for certifying school administrators in New York.  He also served on the Staff Committee for the Blue Ribbon Commission on Youth Leadership chaired by former NY Chancellor Carl Hayden.  Mr. Keany is the LI NASSP certified Breaking Ranks II and Breaking Ranks in the Middle trainer.  He is the lead trainer for WS BOCES for the new NYS SED Principal Evaluator Training.
