Victoria Sampson, Golden Reel Award winning Supervising Sound Editor ("Speed" "Pirates of the Carribbean" "The River") and Steve Maslow, 3 time Academy award winning Re-Recording Mixer ("Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Empire Strikes Back" and "Speed") and recording engineer who has won gold, platinum record awards on such hits as "Incense and Peppermint,"and "Oh What a Night," discuss the importance of good sound for films. Sound consciousness starts at the script level and it is up to the director to insure getting good sound elements which will make the film believable and enjoyable. Whether it's gathering a library of sounds from production, sounds from a library, production dialogue and ADR, and then editing and mixing to achieve maximum understanding and enjoyment of the story, Vickie and Steve will enlighten you on ways you get the most sound bang for your dollar no mater what size your production is. Victoria Rose Sampson has been a Feature Film Sound Editor since 1973, and still finds time to pursue her dream of a writing and directing career. Over her 29 year career, Ms. Sampson was the Supervising Sound Editor on "Donnie Darko," Co-Supervising Sound Editor of "Frailty," directed by Bill Paxton, "Fifteen Minutes" starring Robert DeNiro; the Supervising Sound Editor on "The Love Letter," "The Proposition" starring Kenneth Branagh, "My Teacher's Wife," "Ironweed," "Guarding Tess," "The Favor," "Clan of the Cave Bear" and "About Last Night..."
As Supervising ADR Editor, she honed her directing skills by working with Sir Anthony Hopkins, Chris Rock, Robert DeNiro, William Hurt, Shirley MacLaine, Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Marlon Brando, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Nick Nolte, James Caan, Roberto Benigni, Diane Keaton, Liza Minnelli, Sissy Spacek, Mel Gibson, and Sir Alec Guinness, to name a few.
Steve Maslow's illustrious career began as a roadie for a chart topping band in the late sixties and blossomed to earn him five Academy Awards and multiple nominations for his sound work in films. His work in the recording industry also included a Gold Record,a Platinum Album and Platinum Record for work done with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
Steve's credits include: “The Last Waltz”, “Ten”, “Hair”, “More American Graffiti”, “Star Trek”, and “The Postman Always Rings Twice”, "Raiders of The Lost Ark" (Academy Award Winner), "The Empire Strikes Back" (Academy Award Winner), "Dune", "Speed" (Academy Award & BAFTA Winner), "Waterworld", “Twister”, "U-571", "The Town", "Mysterious Island 2" and “The Conjuring”.
