John Lehr is a comedic performer, writer and producer working in television, film and theater. Lehr starred as Leslie Pool in 10 ITEMS OR LESS, the half-hour improvisational comedy series from Sony on TBS. Lehr also co-created and executive produced the series, which ran for three seasons.
Lehr is one of the original Geico Cavemen from the wildly successful commercial campaign. He appeared in over a dozen spots including the first commercial as a caveman boom operator, the caveman in therapy with Talia Shire, the tennis spot with Billy Jean King, Superbowl spots with Phil Simms and many more.
Lehr’s producing partner is writer/director Nancy Hower. Under the card Howler Productions, they have created multiple projects, most involving their unique improvisationally-based “hybrid” style found in 10 Items and Memron (a Slamdance award-winning mockumentary). With Lehr starring and Howler directing, the team recently completed Let It Ride, a half-hour comedy pilot set in Las Vegas for Comedy Central, Retreat! a half-hour comedy pilot set in a corporate retreat for EUE/Screengems and JailBait a web series for Sony and Crackle.com. In addition, Howler Productions created the pilot Team McPhearson, an animated series inhabiting the world of Nascar for Fox starring Jeff Foxworthy, and John Lehr Movie Club for TBS! Currently Lehr and Hower are writing a pilot for Sony Television.
After graduating from The Julliard School’s drama department, Hower performed in many plays both on and off Broadway including “The Government Inspector” opposite Tony Randall on Broadway, “Antony and Cleopatra” with Vanessa Redgrave at The Public Theatre, and “Why We Have A Body” which won an Obie Award for best Play. She also originated the role of Andrea in new play “The Years” at Manhatten Theatre Club. Hower then moved to Los Angeles to play Yitzak in “Hedwig And The Angry Inch” opposite Tony Award-Winner Michael Cerveris. There she landed a recurring role playing Ensign Wildman on UPN’s “Star Trek,” and went on to guest star in various television shows and independent films.
During this time Nancy also started a band called Wench which opened for Tenacious D and later performed a solo act opening for Meatloaf on his European tour. Her song, “Prozak Grandma,” is currently on “The Curve” soundtrack, and “Fernando,” a song which was co-written with John Patrick Shandley, was sold to “An Alan Smithee Film.”
Hower went on to write and direct her first feature film called “Memron” which won Audience Awards at both Slamdance and The Taos Film Festival’s. This was her first collaboration with star John Lehr with whom she later formed a production company called Howler Productions. Hower & Lehr went on create a tv series for Sony Picture Television and TBS called 10 Items Or Less which ran for three seasons. She served as co-creator, executive producer, writer and directed all shows of this half-hour comedy.
Nancy then served as the co-creator/writer/director for a pilot for Imagine Television/Fox entitled "Take Me To Your Leader”, and has just finished writing a new musical called “The Craving” with composer Steven Argila. Hower & Lehr have co-created several shows since forming Howler Productions. Team McPhearson, an animated show for Fox revolving around the world of Nascar starring Jeff Foxworthy. A pilot of branded entertainment for TBS called John Lehr’s Movie Club. A half hour single camera comedy entitled Let It Ride shot on location in Vegas for Comedy Central, and Jailbait a web series for Sony’s Crackle Channel.
