Pitch Smart: How To Pitch Your Book To Literary Agents & Publishers

Tired of publishers ignoring your work?

Sick of manuscript and query letter rejections?

Learn the secrets of agent and aquistion editor processes, how to put your work into the best format for success, and how to pitch smart.

Most authors dream of having their work published by one of the "big six" publishing houses. But with thousands of submissions each year, making your work stand out in the crowd can be almost impossible. But it isn't simply a matter of volume, many great works are over looked because the work isn't presnted in an acceptable format, it is directed to the wrong people, or the author fails to understand the pitching process.

Pitching your work successfully, whether it is a fiction, non-fiction, or children's title requires an understanding of the publishing industry as a whole and the roles of both the aquisitions editors and literary agents. Pitches must be presented in specific formats based on the genre and the publisher and the wrong presentation will get your pitch tossed without a second glance

This class is designed as a step-by-step guide to successfully pitching your book to literary agents and publishers and includes:

  • Pitching Basics
  • Understanding the Literary Agent Role
  • Understanding the Aquisitions Editor Role
  • How A Pitch Becomes A Published Book
  • Understanding the Financial Realities of Publishing
  • Understanding the Genres and Specialized Marketplace
  • What The Professionals Are Expecting From You
  • Write the Perfect Pitch
  • Submit the the Right People
  • What To Expect When You Pitch
  • Reviews, Submissions, and Rejections
  • How To Recover From a Previous Bad Pitch
  • You Get a Submission Request, Now What?
  • You Get Rejected, Now What?
  • The Realities of Big Six Publishing
  • Other Options

Classes are small and include one-on-one time to discuss your pitch.

Pitch Smart is a single session three hour class.

Orndee Omnimedia

Hi, My name is Alexandrea Merrell and I am the founder of Orndee Omnimedia.  Orndee Omnimedia is a public relations and brand management firm here in NYC, specializing in “unique” personalities, particularly in entertainment, politics, in the arts, and authors and small publishing houses.

We decided to launch Success School, of which this class is a part, simply because so many people who wanted to be published authors or who were already self publishing, or who wanted to break into entertainment or politics, contacted us about helping to launch their career. Many of these people however didn’t have the financial resources to hire a full service firm and were frankly not far enough along for a public relations firm to be a really effective expenditure, even if they did have the financial means to do so.

Over and over, what we found was that people had great concepts, great stories, great points of view, great voices, or great presence,  but they didn’t understand the industry and so they were getting frustrated and either quitting or were falling victim to scams OR were using their limited budgets in all the wrong ways and not getting a good return on their investment, not getting themselves, or their art or books out to the public in an effective way and simply not getting the publicity that they expected.

Now you might wonder why a PR firm is telling you how to get your foot in the door and handle your own branding and publicity. If you understand how the industry works, you can make more effective choices. And when you make those effective choices and become financially successful, you can hire a firm like Orndee Omnimedia to expand your brand through television appearances, speaking events, radio, print media, openings, film and television adaptations, product launches, etc and that is my motivation.

We are passionate about unique, provocative people; I am excited about changes in technology that allow more and more people to share their information, their vision, their talents, and their imagination. I know that by sharing this information with you, you can start building success. And when you do that, when you reach the level where you need help in promotion on a national and international level, I believe that you will come back to Orndee.
