Event Details

Greetings! We would be honored to host your group at the 12th Annual Pirate Classic on October 1st at Estes-Hudson Stadium in Winfield, Alabama!

If you have not attended the Pirate Classic before, this will be an excellent year to see what we have to offer! The primary judging philosophy will be centered on your effectiveness in executing your performance, not the style of performance you choose to execute. This means that you will not have points deducted from your score for failing to conform to a certain type of performance.

Our mission, first and foremost, is to offer the directors and students in attendance the highest quality of comments for improvement throughout the remainder of the marching season and beyond. You, your students, and your drivers will experience incredible hospitality, and our competition staff works year round to ensure that you leave with the best experience possible.

Our marching surface is a well-manicured, well-drained natural grass surface, and we have concrete bleachers which provide for excellent acoustics as well as comfort. Additionally, our parking and driveway areas are slated to be completely resurfaced this summer. Each year, we have taken great pride in running on schedule. In 2015, some bands elected to perform early due to our staff's high level of commitment to the schedule. Twenty minutes after the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony, the parking lots are cleared and bands are happily on their way home.

We wish to continue to strive for the purpose of making this one of the best contests in Alabama, and we hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you!

This year's contest will offer a professional audio and video recording with multiple angles in High Definition! Not only will this be live-streamed to the Hospitality area for directors, but it will also be offered for sale on DVD. Visit http://www.procatav.com/ for more information!

Rules
Bands will perform in order from the smallest to largest. Any band may choose to move to a larger classification. Classifications may be combined, with the consent of the directors in each class, depending upon the number of registrants. Bands with the same combined number of winds and percussion will be scheduled based on the order in which their registration is received, with the earliest received being given the choice as to the order in which they will perform. Special accommodations regarding scheduling can be made if necessary due to an unavoidable conflict (for example, if several of your students have an evening event and you need to perform earlier than where you would be scheduled otherwise). Seating will be determined based on registration order.

Jackie Harrington Memorial All Superiors
Pirate Classic Grand Champion

 

Trophies will be awarded to all bands and captions that receive a Superior or Excellent Rating. Best in Class trophies will be awarded for bands in each class regardless of the number of groups within the class and will be based on the three band caption scores. Best in Class trophies will be awarded for captions as long as there are two or more of that caption within the class and as long as there are two or more students that make up that caption. The Best General Effect award will go to the band with the highest general effect score. The Jackie Harrington MemorialAward will be awarded to all bands who receive a Superior Rating in all captions. This award is named in honor of the late former Assistant Director and longtime Pirate Band supporter Jackie Harrington. The Grand Champion Trophy will go to the band with the highest overall score (all captions averaged together).

Any band or caption may be entered as comments only. Once the competition has started, however, this cannot be changed. As we fill out our judges panel (with some judges having already been confirmed), this information will be updated on the registration website.

Admission
All announced staff will be given a badge for free entry. Chaperones will be admitted for free at a ratio of 10:1 (students to chaperones). Students and drivers will also be admitted free of charge. Children 5 and under will get in free. Admission for all other attendees is $5. Priority parking at Estes Hudson Stadium is also $5 per vehicle.

Hospitality
Hospitality rooms will be provided for announced band staff, their spouses, and bus drivers. We will offer a full selection of homemade snacks and drinks throughout the day. Supper will be provided for announced band staff, their spouses, and bus drivers during the supper break. Our goal is to have the best hospitality area in the South, and our staff works hard year round to make this a reality!

Concessions
A fully stocked concession stand will be available throughout the entire day. Concessions prices will be posted as soon as possible.

Registration
In order to register, go to http://pirateclassic.eventbrite.com. The deadline to register is September 19th, 2016 at 8:00 PM. Click the green Register button. Complete all of the fields and check any "Register for Clinic" boxes that apply for your visual groups, then click “Complete Order” at the bottom of the form. You can then either print your “ticket” (your registration form) directly from the website, or you can do so from your e-mail. This should be mailed, along with your $85 registration fee and any applicable clinic fees, to:

Invoices and W9 forms can be e-mailed upon requests sent to ngarner@winfield.k12.al.us. That’s all there is to it! You can also update your group information at any time.
