Come hang out, mix, mingle, throw back a cocktail, and meet the Hedgepigs.
We are a classical theatre ensemble interested in building community among theater-goers, actors, directors, and whoever else might be interested in classical theatre.
Our monthy meet up happens at Peter Dillon's bar. $4 happy hour specials and $5 for any drink!
Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre
WHO WE ARE:
Good people who want to do good work.
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
Theatre should be based in trust and joy. The way to achieve that is by building a strong ensemble.
WHAT WE DO:
We do the classics, from the Greeks to Shakespeare to Williams and Inge. Plays that are driven by language and strong characters will be mainstays of our season.
WHAT IS A HEDGEPIG, ANYWAY?
A hedgepig is a young hedgehog. A term coined by Shakespeare, hedgepigs are unique creatures that deliver the unexpected. Just like us.
We value training. Our ensemble will take ongoing master classes geared to honing technique and developing spontaneity. By creating a safe, challenging playground for our artists, we will develop exciting, muscular, and powerful works of theatre.
MEET THE FIRST PIGS
Adam, Mary, and Gwen trained together at The Shakespeare Theater Company’s Academy for Classical Acting in DC. There, they discovered the incredible value of working in an ensemble. They believe that the shared language and trust developed in an ensemble is the key to making powerful and meaningful theatre. After all three moved to New York City, they decided that what they could bring to the fertile New York theatre scene was just this. Thus, Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre was born.
