Additional ferry service is available from the IKEA boats at Pier 11 (Wall Street). The ferries will run back from IKEA until 9 p.m. We are recommending that people join us for a Sixpoint afterparty at Hometown BBQ (454 Van Brunt Street between Reed & Beard Streets), in order to stagger return trips back into the city. Plus, it's more Red Hook love!

Other options include subway or bus service. Visit the IKEA Brooklyn website for more on directions.

Original event info below:

Food Karma Projects is happy to announce the fourth annual Pig Island! Showcasing the best of New York State local farmers, chefs, brewers and vintners all dedicated to bringing home the bacon, Pig Island will be coming to Red Hook, the home of our exclusive beer provider, Sixpoint Craft Ales!

Because the area continues to recover from the damage of Hurricane Sandy, Pig Island is bringing a smokin’ good time to the Red Hook waterfront, with a portion of proceeds going to benefit Value Added Farm. Pig Island pairs NY State hogs with NYC chefs to bring the best of New York State to New York City.

Event features include:

• The best chefs (25+) from all five boroughs going hog wild with locally-, pigs from Flying Pigs Farm, Møsfund Mangalitsa, and Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse, among others (the famous “Pig Pickup” will take place on Wednesday, September 4th at Union Square Greenmarket);

• Great local craft beer by Sixpoint, providing exclusive custom beers;

• Wines from the Finger Lakes region of NY State;

• Hard ciders from the Hudson Valley;

• Special cooking demonstrations by Peter Kaminsky (author of Bacon Nation) and Grillworks Station;

• Music all day with live bands, including Sistermonk, JP Bowersock Quintet, NYC City Slickers featuring Annie Chadwick, and 79.5;

• Best-of-show prizes presented courtesy of our sponsor, Wüsthof;

• Free entry and ferry service for kids under 12 with paying adult;

• Vegetarian-friendly side stations.

Chefs include: Bob Devine (pitmaster collaborating with Vittorio's), Will Horowitz (Ducks Eatery), Jacques Gautier (Palo Santo), Peter Giannakas (Ovelia), Danny Mena and Ethan Smith (Hecho en Dumbo), King Phojanakong (Kuma Inn and Umi Nom), George Weld and Evan Hanzcor (Parish Hall), Joe Dobias (JoeDoe), Jimmy Carbone and Dave Miss (Jimmy’s No. 43), Michael Jenkins (Butter), Justin Brunwasser (Friedman's Lunch, teaming with Jon Bratton of NYC Hot Sauce), Clay Gordon (This Chocolate Life), Tim Cavaretta and Isabelle Leighton (Bittergreen), Doug Keiles (Ribs Within), Jesse Jones, Bill Fletcher (Fletcher's BBQ), Neuman’s Kitchen: Events & Catering, Jonathan White (Bobolink), Zarela Martinez and Tyson Ho (Arrogant Swine), Michael Clampfer (Møsfund Mangalitsa), Fort Defiance/The Good Fork, with more TBA.

In addition, we are producing an e-book on the history of Pig Island, written by James Beard Award winner Rachel Wharton, with photography by John Taggert. Your early bird ticket entitles you to a digital copy of the book (to be redeemed fall 2013). The venue will be the Ikea waterfront (1 Beard Street, Brooklyn), with easy access via public transit in Brooklyn or ferry from Lower Manhattan.
