Photographing Nature with Corby Hines

Nature offers an amazing diversity of colors, shapes and perspectives, providing endless opportunities for the photographer. Join Sonoma Land Trust’s Outings Assistant Corby Hines, also a professional photographer, to learn how to take advantage of what the moment offers and capture beautiful images using the tools on hand. We will explore the landscape of the Estero Americano, observing how light interacts with water, land and sky during the golden hours prior to sunset.

Experience, Level 3

About the Estero Americano Preserve

The Estero Americano Preserve is scenic and biologically diverse 127-acre property that was acquired in 1997 and 2001 in partnership with the California State Coastal Conservancy and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District.  The Preserve was protected with the purposes of protecting the coastal estuary, upland environments and other sensitive resources, allowing for restoration of habitat areas, and providing limited public access.

The Estero Americano is part of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and is one of the most important biological areas on the entire Northern California Coast.  The Estero Americano is an important coastal area for numerous plant and animal species of concern.  The preserve contains a variety of diverse habitat types, including: coastal prairie, perennial grasslands, northern coastal scrub, freshwater seep, and coastal brackish marsh.
