Photo-Lettering Inc. was one of the earliest and most successful services to utilize photographic technology in the manufacture of commercial lettering and typography. A mainstay of the advertising and design trades from 1936 to 1997, the company's patented production process gave it a unique advantage over competitors. In addition to employing leading experts in the field, Photo-Lettering was equally well-known for its distinctive catalogs and innovative specimen books. Offering a behind-the-scenes look at how Photo-Lettering's proprietary technology, ubiquitous marketing materials and staff of legendary artists helped to shape the face of design for over half a century, this lecture will also illustrate how the company continues to revolutionize lettering in the digital marketplace.
Accompanying the lecture, from 6pm–9pm there will be an exhibition of Photo-Lettering material with printing by Awesome Dudes.
Update: Though the exhibition is open to the general public, all seats for the lecture have been spoken for. Registrants for the lecture are encouraged to arrive early to claim their seats. Any seats that are empty by the beginning of the lecture will be given to waitlisted people.
