Event Details

Robots are taking over Philadelphia!

You don’t have to be a science geek to have a blast playing with real robots and learning from the local business people, engineers and students who are transforming science fiction into science reality! Students of all ages are invited to attend our hands-on workshops on topics ranging from autonomous programming to real robot driving lessons. Last year, organizations such as Boeing, Solid Works, PTC, the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and high schools robotics teams from the region captivated robotics professionals and enthusiasts with their achievements in cutting edge technology.

  • WHAT: The Third Annual Philly Robotics Expo (PRX), sponsored by Drexel University, is a one-day demonstration and workshop event geared towards K-12 students.
  • WHY: PRX seeks to inspire K-12 students in the City of Philadelphia to enter STEM fields and discover the world of robotics through workshops and demonstrations.
  • WHO: Robotics teams, universities, tech businesses, organizations and Central High School students work together with K-12 students from the City of Philadelphia.
  • ORGANIZERS: PRX is organized by Central High School’s RoboLancers, a FIRST Robotics team, in partnership with Technically Philly and the Philadelphia Robotics Education Alliance.

Elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools are invited to explore many different aspects of engineering and robotics.  Registration is limited to 33 students per school/group.  PRX is free and open to all registered visitors.

PRX includes the following events:

  • 5 workshop tracks including Intro to Engineering, Intermediate Engineering, Advanced Engineering & Programming, Intro to Programming and Intermediate Programming
  • FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) scrimmage where attendees learn how to operate FTC® robots
  • FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) scrimmage, presented by the GRASP Lab, University of Pennsylvania, where attendees learn how to operate Mindstorm robots
  • Exhibitor hall where universities, high schools, organizations, and companies present robotics and advanced technology
  • Seminars, lectures, and demonstrations

Food will NOT be provided at the event.  Students, parents and teachers are encouraged to bring lunch.  Special arrangements can be made for groups wanting to puchase lunch tickets to be used at Drexel.  Contact organizers for more info.

All proceeds from the Philadelphia Robotics Expo will go towards supporting the Philadelphia Robotics Education Alliance.

The RoboLancers

The RoboLancers are a student-operated, adult-mentored robotics program based out of Central High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The program was founded in 1999 as FIRST Robotics Team #321 and included five students from the school. Since then, the program has evolved into a multi-faceted organization of more than 120 students and 9 adult mentors that - with a $20,000 per year budget - competes in two to three competitions, hosts various STEM ( science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) training and outreach programs around the City, and has become a shining example of what students in a struggling urban setting can do if given the opportunity.
