Philly and the Fight Against Global Austerity
Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Philadelphia, United States
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Throughout the world -- from Greece to Egypt to Mexico -- peoples’ lives are being upended by drastic cuts in government services and programs. Here in Philadelphia, draconian cuts have been made to education, health services, general assistance and many other programs that are vital to the lives of working and low-income Philadelphians. Yet we hear little discussion of how Philadelphia’s struggles against these cuts are but one thread in the global fabric of austerity politics.
Please join us for a diverse panel of local activists and academics who will be discussing the intersections of global and local struggles against austerity, and how understanding these connections can strengthen our power against the one percent!
Speakers include Temple University Professor Joseph Schwartz, Fight for Philly lead Organizer Sam Jones, Philadelphia Unemployment Project Director John Dodds, and more!
Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Philadelphia Democratic Socialists of America, Fight for Philly and the Philadelphia Unemployment Project.
