The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild is thrilled to announce that nationally renowned beekeepers and authors of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beekeeping", Dean Stiglitz and Laurie Herboldsheimer, will be coming to Philadelphia to speak at the 4th Annual Natural Beekeeping Symposium. Stiglitz and Herboldsheimer will share valuable techniques and stories about natural beekeeping based on their extensive, personal experience. The Natural Beekeeping Symposium is an all day event and will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 10am to 4pm at William Penn Charter School on 3000 West School House Lane in Philadelphia.

Laurie and Dean live in Leominster, Massachusetts (birthplace of Johnny Appleseed!), where they breed and keep bees, market treatment-free honey, run beekeeping conferences and classes, write, and do research. They are active in the Worcester County Beekeepers Association and travel around the country speaking about treatment-free beekeeping and the importance of the microbial environment in the beehive.

Golden Rule Honey, LLC is their honey business which maintains a certified food production facility, where they package, distribute and retail honey from treatment-free beekeeping operations and produce The Queen of Chocolate, a line of unique dairy-free cocoa mixes sweetened only with honey.

The speaking topics for this event will be:

Morning Session: The Importance of the Microbial Environment in the Beehive

Afternoon Session : Queen Rearing and Bee Breeding

A delicious box lunch is included in the price of admission (please specify if you would like a vegetarian or vegan lunch). We will also hold a raffle, with a chance to win one of a collection of beekeeping prizes. Attendees to the event can also visit a variety of vendors featuring bee and honey-related products. Come join us for this amazing day of beekeeping education and comraderie.
