Perspective From Peru: Latin America Tiger
Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM (PDT)
Please join the Trade Alliance in welcoming Harold Forsyth, Ambassador of Peru to the United States, to Greater Seattle.
One of the fastest growing economies in Latin American, Peru has sustained an average growth rate of 6.4% each year since 2002.
Peru’s economy underwent reform in the early 1990s, doing much to lay the groundwork for today’s growth which continues to be fueled by the country’s wealth of natural resources, foreign investment and young population. According to HSBC Bank, Peru is “the third fastest growing consumer market globally, and set to be a bigger economy than Chile, Colombia, or even South Africa long term”.
As the U.S. is Peru’s leading source of imports, key opportunities lie in helping to develop Peru’s infrastructure as the country works to meet growing demand. Specifically, this means Peru’s power generation and hydroelectric, construction, engineering and telecommunications.
The Seattle Art Museum will be hosting a major exhibition of Peruvian art beginning October 2013. For information on the exhibition, please visit the Seattle Art Museum.
Harold W. Forsyth became Ambassador of Peru to the United States in 2011. Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Forsyth served as Ambassador of Peru to China, Ambassador of Peru to San Marino and Turkey, Ambassador of Peru to Italy and Ambassador of Peru to Columbia.
Ambassador Forsyth studied journalism at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and international relations and diplomacy at the Diplomatic Academy of Peru. He is the author of the book Conversation with Javier Pérez de Cuéllar (2001). He has directed a radio program, two television shows, and a newspaper, and has received a dozen decorations for his diplomatic work.
The mission of the Trade Alliance is to promote the Greater Seattle region in international markets, connect the region—its businesses and organizations--to those markets, bring the region together to be more successful internationally and to educate our region on the importance of international business broadly defined. To this end, the Trade Alliance enhances the identity of Greater Seattle in world markets by convening regional stakeholders, executing outbound missions, hosting inbound delegations, producing marketing publications, organizing educational programming, and other activities.
