Beginning guitar camp will cover all the basics of the instrument. An overview of the role guitar plays in music will be presented. Popular melodies will be introduced as well as basic scales and chords. Several styles will be reviewed with interactive instruction. Students will learn in a fun, encouraging environment how to play some of their favorite tunes!
Intermediate camp will focus on increasing skill development and offer some experience with more advanced music.
St. Edward’s Hilltopper Instrumental Jazz Camp with Joey Colarusso and St. Edward's Jazz Faculty
June 17 – 20 , 9 a.m.–4 p.m. • Cost: $200 per student
The SEU Jazz Camp is open to instrumentalists at all levels of experience who are interested in expanding their jazz knowledge and performance skills. Students will be attending classes on jazz history and theory. Additionally, they will be studying improvisational techniques while playing in jazz combos coached by the SEU Music Department's distinguished jazz faculty.
The camp will culminate in a final concert on June 20.
St. Edward’s Hilltopper All-State Choral Music Workshop with Dr. Morris Stevens and Area High School Experts
Aug. 8 - 10, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. • Cost: $100 per student
A three-day crash course to help Austin area high school choral singers learn music in preparation for the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir auditions in the fall.
This camp will have a final concert on August 10.
SEU Summer Pops Orchestra conducted by Dr. Robert Radmer
The Austin Summer Pops Orchestra (ASPO) celebrates classical music! Amateur and professional musicians perform alongside students, faculty and staff from St. Edward’s University and other local universities. Rehearsals highlight the historical and social context of the music alongside performance and theory. Audition not necessary, but individual instrumental sections may close depending on enrollment. Fees can be petitioned to be waived if a financial burden.
