(Go back to the agenda)

MySQL 5.6: Advantages in the nutshell

With MySQL 5.6 release imminent a lot of MySQL users find themselves wondering what Advantages this version provides and whenever it is worth upgrading.  This high pace technical session will provide overview of most important developments in MySQL 5.6 including new features for developers, optimizer, replication and transparency features. (Go back to the agenda)

“MySQL High Availability and Clustering with Percona XtraDB Cluster”

This talk focuses on Percona XtraDB Cluster and specifically addresses:

1. synchronous replication
2. multi-master replication support
3. parallel applying AKA “parallel replication”
4. automatic node provisioning
5. primary focus on data consistency. (Go back to the agenda)

"Introduction to MySQL Replication"

Replication is often noted as one of the killer features of MySQL. In this session we will discuss:

  • various replication architectures
    • single master with slaves
    • master master
  • how to set up replication
  • common issues with replication

A demonstration will be provided for setting up a master and slave using XtraBackup. (Go back to the agenda)

"My MySQL Success Story: In the trenches with developer David Rasch of ReverbNation"

In this session our guest speaker, David Rasch of ReverbNation, will walk through a few war-room scenarios of real-world applications web applications and how their performance fingerprints can go awry.  These scenarios will involve a MySQL backend, and he'll discuss how to identify where a bottleneck is and what to do about it. (Go back to the agenda)

“MySQL Indexing: Best Practices”

As MySQL powers more and more business critical applications it is very important to be able to upgrade MySQL server with as low risk as possible. In this presentation we will go into details of best practices used by Percona to perform hundreds of MySQL upgrade projects as well as learn how to use Percona Toolkit to assist in simplifying those operations. (Go back to the agenda)

“MySQL Backup and Data Recovery”

This lecture reviews available backup solutions that best meet your needs. Depending on input requirements, some backup techniques are good; some are are completely unacceptable.

All possible options will be presented along with their respective pros and cons. The recovery process is of vital importance. And this talk explains how to recover a database from a backup copy and what to do if no backup copies are available. (Go back to the agenda)

Percona Monitoring Plugins for Nagios & Cacti

Setting up alerting and monitoring of metrics of your MySQL server is often one of the most neglected, but arguably one of the more important tasks that you wish you had done in times of crisis.

In this session we will cover:

  • Demonstration of the installation of the Percona Monitoring Plugins for Nagios and Cacti
  • Discussion of fault detection: alerting enough on actionable items, but not too much
  • Discussion of what to monitor: status counters, uptime, etc. (Go back to the agenda)

“Optimizing MySQL Configuration”

MySQL's configuration file is often the focus of too much attention and too much tweaking of variables that make no difference -- or worse, have the potential to negatively impact performance. The sample default configuration files that come with MySQL are unfortunately not very helpful or good, either. You'll learn a practical approach to generate a sensible configuration file that sets what's needed and omits what isn't. The result will be a more stable and performant server that's resistant to many common problems. (Go back to the agenda)

Open Source Data Warehousing: MySQL and Beyond

Data Warehousing is the process of centralizing data collected by a business for the purposes of reporting and further analysis. This session will discuss the different methodologies used to manage the ever growing mountain of data. The open source tools that best fit each methodology will also be discussed.

The methodologies discussed will include:
Third Normal Form
Star Schema
Data Vault
Anchor Modeling
