Event Details

Join us for a jaunt to Palos.  

Start Location:  Planet Fitness parking lot 83rd and Holland, a few blocks west of the Dan Ryan Expressway (near Lowes and Walmart)

Start Time:  10 am SHARP

Pace:  13-16 rolling average, end of ride average will be about 12-13 mph when including stops, etc.

Distance:  42 miles

This is a no drop ride, intended for those who are comfortable riding the casual pace posted above.  The route is on streets, so cyclists should be comfortable riding with other cyclists on the road.  We plan to stay together as a group.  On this ride, please bring water and/or a sports drink, a few $$ and/or credit/debit card, and something to eat (ie dried fruit, energy bar, etc.)  There will be a brief stop on the way out to Palos at about the 10 mile mark.  You will be able to purchase supplies at this stop, if you like.  There will be another rest stop at about the 23 mile mark.  Optional stop at about mile 30, if people's legs are a little tired.  

SHORTER OPTION

Start Location: The intersection of 103rd and Vincennes (On street parking is available on 102nd and Elizabeth)

Start Time: 10:20 am SHARP (The cyclists starting at Planet Fitness will ride down Vincennes.  We will briefly stop for others to join us, then proceed.  10:20 am is the departure time.  We will not wait for those who are not ready to depart at 10:20 am.)

Pace: 13-16 rolling average, end of ride average will be about 12-13 mph when including stops, etc.

Distance:  36 miles for this option

This option cuts out the first 3 miles and the last 3 miles of the first option.  It is intended for those who are capable of riding the casual pace listed above, but prefer less than 40 miles.

Major Taylor Cycling Club Chicago

The Major Taylor Cycling Club Chicago, South Side Chicago's newest cycling club, invites you to join us on a variety of rides and events. Organized in 2008, we are a club made up of all ages, cycling disciplines and cycling abilities. Active members enjoy riding together year round in a relaxed and friendly group atmosphere. Our rides range from short, easy trips for beginners, to moderately-paced tours with snack breaks, to fast, challenging rides for the more competitive minded. Volunteer club members organize group rides, leaving from various locations throughout the South side of Chicago and Northwest Indiana. Their routes provide us a wonderful variety of places to tour and explore. Some months there are 20 or more rides to choose from! Rides can be anywhere from 10 to 100+ miles, with different degrees of difficulty and speed. Therefore, we grade rides by distance, speed, and terrain so you can choose the ones you will be comfortable with. Popular rides tend to be 25 to 50 miles, usually with a lunch or snack stop. Whether your focus is a fast, challenging ride or something more leisurely, come see what fun club riding can be. Our rides are free, and non-members are welcome to come try us out.
