Ms. Paula Deen Makes Guest Appearance in New Orleans
at the National Medical Association's Conference
Join Ms. Paula Deen in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center with the attendees of the National Medical Association's (NMA) annual conference. The NMA is the nation's oldest and largest association of African American physicians (www.nmanet.org). This is an event that you won't soon forget! You've seen her on television, read her books and tried her recipes--now meet Ms. Deen.
Ms. Deen has been very public about her diagnosis and journey with diabetes. We are inspired by her path and she has been "Wowing" us with her successful weight loss, which is a testament to her focus on her health. The NMA looks forward to her wit, inspiration and of course her "cooking magic" during that we know she will bring. However, the NMA did not want to keep Ms. Deen all to themselves, and thus have opened up the live Diabetes in a New Light™ Cooking Demonstration to the public!
This event is a program of the NMA's “We Stand with You, NMA Physicians and their Patients United for Improved Health for All" program which is an example of the NMA's commitment to reaching all communities. The NMA will host several public events, including the annual "Walk a Mile with a Child" 1 mile walk and free community health screening on Saturday, July 28th at Xavier University of Louisiana.
Paula Deen at the NMA is FREE and open to the public (limited seating) but you MUST pre-register. Seats are on a first/come basis for registrants and doors open at 1:30 pm. Ms. Paula Deen will share her infectious personality with the audience as she prepares a great meal that is "good to you and good for you!". Attendees will receive complimentary recipe cards from Ms. Deen which are from her upcoming cookbook.
This event is free but the mission of the NMA does take resources. The NMA provides health information, free health screenings and support to thousands of persons each year. The dedicated physicians and staff of the NMA asks that registrants consider making a tax deductible donation to the NMA's "We Stand with You" campaign. Donors will be recognized during the event. Your support may just save a life; no donation is too small or too large!

Biography of Ms. Paula Deen:
Over the past 30 years, professional cook, author and entrepreneur, Paula Deen has grown her love of family and cooking into a company that is known and loved around the world. Not one to let anything stand in her way, Paula maintained this same attitude when she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2008. She was determined to take a positive approach as she learned to manage her type 2 diabetes. To inspire others with her personal diabetes success story, Paula is teaming up with Novo Nordisk on Diabetes in a New Light™, a national initiative that aims to help adults, like her, tackle common challenges associated with type 2 diabetes management.
Paula launched a catering business in the late 1980’s along with sons Bobby and Jamie that grew into her famous restaurant, The Lady & Sons, located in Savannah, Georgia, which inspired her first cookbook, “The Lady & Sons Savannah Country Cookbook.” In 1999, USA Today food critic Jerry Shriver named The Lady & Sons “International Meal of the Year.”
Today, she has written more than 14 cookbooks that have sold more than 8 million copies. Paula’s genuine warmth and folksy personality made her a natural for television. She is a two-time Emmy® winner, with her first shows on The Food Network, “Paula’s Home Cooking” (which is now titled “Paula’s Best Dishes”) debuting in 2002 and “Paula’s Party” in 2006. It was on the former, that her sons Bobby and Jamie began cooking with her side-by-side.
Paula’s vivacious energy combined with her dazzling smile and infectious laugh has helped her millions of fans embrace her as America’s best friend and next door neighbor. When Paula tours the country making personal appearances to talk about life, family and cooking, thousands of people come to participate.
Paula Deen Enterprises now includes 17 different licensees and covers a broad gamut of good living products. Her various products include a full line of cookware and dishes, assorted food products, sauces, spices and bakery goods and a furniture line.
Ever grateful for all she has been blessed with, Paula and her family continue to give back to the community. Paula is a member of the board of Safe Shelter and an active supporter of the Bethesda Home for Boys. She works tirelessly for America’s Second Harvest and partners with Smithfield Foods Helping Hungry Homes™, which has donated protein for more than 10 million meals for America’s hungry. She is driven to change our country’s status quo, where every day, thousands of children are going to bed hungry.
Married to Michael Groover, Paula is the proud grandmother of three beautiful boys; Jack, Matthew and Henry.
This event is held in conjunction with the NMA's Corporate Circle Member, Novo Nordisk.
