Passion, Prejudice and Policy: Andrew Jackson in the White House
a lecture by Professor Daniel Feller

Andrew Jackson was renowned for his fiery temper and his steadfast convictions.  But which governed which—personality or policy?  He stuck to his guns, and he knocked aside anyone who got in his way. But did Jackson’s animosities and resentments arise from disputes over principle, or did they determine them?  Were his presidential policies indeed, as some have surmised, nothing more than the residue of his rage?  The search for an answer goes deep into the workings of Jackson’s administration, and also into the complexities of his character.

Daniel Feller is Professor and Director of The Papers of Andrew Jackson, at the University of Tennessee. Professor Feller joined the History Department in August 2003 from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he had been since 1986. Previous to that he taught at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, and served on the staff of The Papers of Andrew Jackson, a UT project which he now directs. For more information on the project, visit www.thepapersofandrewjackson.com.

A light reception will precede the event beginning at 5:30 PM.  Dr. Feller's publication, The Jacksonian Promise, will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.

FREE Parking will be available in the lot north of the Bush Center.  No permit is required.  Please enter the Bush Center through the Bush Institute entrance on the west side of the building off Bush Avenue.
