Smiles 4 Sheena
Smiles 4 Sheena Charity Golf Tournament sponsors families each year who are currently receiving treatment for cancer. 100% of the proceeds (minus tournament costs) are donated the sponsored families.
This is the story behind the non-profit ‘Smiles 4 Sheena’ charity:
“In July of 2007, my sister, Sheena, was diagnosed with leukemia, and we were crushed. She was 22 years old at the time of her initial diagnosis.
Sheena endured many months of chemotherapy & extended hospitalization and finally received a bone marrow transplant in November 2007. The transplant seemed to be a success. Following recovery from her bone marrow transplant, Sheena returned back to work, finished college to get her medical assistance degree, got engaged and began planning her wedding. She had plans to take a full time position at an OB/GYN office where she had done her internship.
On December 9, 2009, just six short days after her 25th birthday, the cancer returned. My mother donated over 10 million stem cells for another bone marrow transplant. Her body accepted the cells, but few weeks later Sheena caught pneumonia. After a long, hard fight with the pneumonia, her body wasn’t strong enough to beat it, and my sister died on April 20, 2010.
Sheena was such a fun-loving and free-spirited person. She will always live through our memories and in our hearts. I hope her story will touch your life as she touched ours for 25 years.
This charity is our family’s way to deal with such a great loss, celebrate her life and pay it forward. Please help us, help others in their fight against cancer.”
