- Hoboken Public Library, Hoboken NJ
The Hoboken Public Library is excited for Park Bench
Open-Mic where local poets, comedians, and musicians
can perform outdoors under the Gazebo of Church
Square Park. Perform your poems, jokes, music or
dance. The gazebo is a perfect space that provides a
comfortable stage area to perform your creative
Join us for a very special live performance from the
fusion funk-jazz group Big Fun(k). Jazztimes gave their
debut album the following praise:Big Fun(k) is a
synchronized rhythm machine. Not that it sounds
mechanical; rather, each player primarily emphasizes
rhythm, and all the parts interconnect—drum
backbeats bass grooves, keyboard riffs and colors and
(mostly) pentatonic tenor saxophone figures. Joining
leaders Don Braden (tenor sax and alto flute) and Karl
Latham (drums) on this live session are Nick Rolfe
(keyboards) and Gary Foote (bass). Except for the
Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and
Beyonce’s “Déjà Vu,” the compositions are originals.
Park Bench Poetry Open-Mic features unique and
talented acts attracting curious locals who are
introduced to the buzz of the Hoboken arts scene. It
is a great event to not only experience the arts, but
also to learn of about the free programs the Hoboken
Public Library has to offer.
As a vital contributor to the quality of life of Hoboken's citizens, the Hoboken Public Library will connect people with books and information by providing a broad and diverse collection of books and other library materials, innovative programs, competent staff, timely service, appropriate technologies and an inviting facility.
