Rendezvous with ArtPoint...
Paris by Night
Starry Night over the Rhone, by Vincent van Gogh (1888)
For my part, I know nothing with any certainty,
but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
—Vincent van Gogh
Slip away from reality…ArtPoint is hosting a party among the stars in the Hamon Tower at the de Young. Drink in the nighttime view, along with cocktails and sparkling wine. Corks will be popping all night as we celebrate the treasures of Paris! The highly anticipated Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne, and Beyond: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay will open for after-hours viewing and VIP tours led by the Curatorial Department and Docents of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
Guests will spend the evening indulging in French-inspired cuisine by McCall’s Fine Catering, artfully crafted drinks, and world-famous works of art.
Comprehensive in its breadth and depth, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne, and Beyond forms a bridge from the maverick innovations of Impressionism to the avant-garde ideas of the Post-Impressionist period. In the decades surrounding 1900, artists liberated by Impressionism’s innovations created some of the most novel and recognizable paintings of the modern era. Included in this compelling sequel to Birth of Impressionism are more than 100 masterpieces, ranging from late Impressionist landmarks to large-scale decorative panels. The combined works of these artists bear witness to the rapidly evolving avant-garde ideas of this era. Many recognizable favorites will be on view, including Van Gogh’s dazzling Starry Night over the Rhone, Renoir’s A Dance in the Country, and Gauguin’s Tahitian Women.
