and community building.

Featured Panelists: Ken Lo, Julie Chang, Justin Hoover, Imin Yeh, Vivian Chang (CCDC), Ellyn Parker (Mayor’s Office of Economic & Workforce Development)

Moderated by: Darin Ow-Wing, Executive Director of Community Educational Services

With the great success of the Center's biennial exhibition, Present Tense 2009: Chinese Character, in collaboration with Kearny Street Workshop, we would like to engage the community in a casual, lively, and fun panel discussion regarding the relationship between contemporary art, community building, and public space as a venue for the arts. Among other topics, we will discuss the impact on artists, the community audience, and how exhibitions like Present Tense can bring new and provocative energy into the public scene.

The Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco is a major community-based, non-profit organization established in 1965 to foster the understanding and appreciation of Chinese and Chinese American art, history, and culture in the United States.

In its 45 years of work, CCC has played a pioneering role in introducing Chinese culture to the American public through exhibitions and public programming of a broad spectrum of Chinese traditional and contemporary artistic works in multiple disciplines: Visual Arts, Literature, Music and Theater.
