THE 2013 PAIN RESOURCE SYMPOSIUM.
This two day interactive immersion in pain is ideal for any professional nurse, advanced practice nurse or pharmacist who desires to improve their knowledge and practice of pain management. The Pain Resource Nurse (PRN) Program curriculum was developed by The Resource Center of the Alliance of State Pain Initiatives by leading expert pain physicians, advanced practice nurses and pharmacists. This conference features the adapted core curriculum presented by engaging Colorado experts in pain management.

The comprehensive pain content delivered throughout this symposium prepares nurses and pharmacists to act as leaders, resources and change agents to improve clinical and process outcomes related to pain within their organizations.

Keynote Featuring Dr. Steve Wright, board certified in addiction medicine
Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital is pleased to feature Dr. Steve Wright as our keynote speaker. Dr. Wright is board certified in family medicine and addiction medicine with extensive experience managing the medically complex patient including those with coexisting chronic pain and substance use disorders. He has been involved in a variety of clinical, advisory board, committee and policy development settings that deal with pain management, medical ethics and addiction, and recently the Colorado Task Force of the National Governors Association Prescription Drug Abuse Reduction Policy Academy. Dr. Wright has a particular interest in the interface between medication misuse/addiction and pain management. He lectures in a number of settings on optimizing opioid use and in particular risk management to improve the safety of opioid prescribing. He reviews physicians with respect to the medical care of patients with pain and/or addiction. Dr. Wright is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the Colorado Society of Addiction Medicine, and the Colorado Pain Initiative. Currently, he practices addiction medicine and medical pain management at Colorado Pain and Rehab.
Carrie Brunson is an advanced practice nurse who manages the acute pain service at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital and leads the pain resource nurse program. Carrie is board certified in pain management by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and has organized multiple pain conferences throughout Colorado and Wyoming to increase pain awareness and opioid safety through patient advocacy and education. Carrie received her MSN with an emphasis in Leadership and Nursing Education from the University of Northern Colorado and her Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist from University of Colorado Denver.
The registration deadline is October 1. The fee includes two full conference days with comprehensive materials and 14 contact hours (10 of which are pharmacology designated). Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 14822, for 14 contact hours. Registrations will only be accepted for the full two day conference. The participant must be present for the entire symposium and complete an evaluation to receive the contact hours. Registration is not confirmed until payment has been received.
