Event Details

Larry Muhammad’s plays have been performed at Kentucky Center, Actors Theatre and Rudyard Kipling in Louisville, Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, and Stage on Spring in New Albany. His repertoire of history plays include: Double V, about a crusading black news man who helps persuade President Truman to desegregate the US military; Jockey Jim,  about an old stable hand haunted by ghosts of his past as a great Kentucky Derby winning rider; The Magnificent Stephen, about a world famous Mammoth Cave guide on a tragic quest for the freedom promised in his late master’s will; and Henry Bain’s New Albany, about a budding black middle class coping with inequality, 50 years up from slavery. Join us as Mr. Muhammad shares his approach to playwriting as we celebrate African Americans of distinction.

Larry Muhammad is a member of Theatre Alliance of Louisville; Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative; Dramatists Guild of America; Theatre Communications Group; and Theatre Development Fund. A former writer for the Courier-Journal, he came across the characters in his plays through his work for the newspaper.

Reservations are required.
