“Integrating Faith and Practice to End Homelessness”
Joe Colletti, PhD, is a leading figure in the national movement to end homelessness. He has provided expert support to numerous Southern California counties and cities, including San Bernardino County, to develop and implement evidence-based best practices to end homelessness by conducting community-based studies, drafting local plans and strategies, designing and implementing a wide-rage of service programs and writing public and private grants that have secured millions of dollars for local jurisdictions throughout the region. Dr. Colletti is an Adjunct Professor of Urban Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA and the founder of the seminary's Office for Urban Initiatives. He is also the Executive Director of the Episcopal Housing Alliance and Economic Development. He credits the Dark Night of the Soul teaching of St. John of The Cross as the integrative spiritual experience that initiated and sustains his involvement with ending homelessness along with the “examination of consciousness” teaching of St. Ignatius Loyola who founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). He is also the founder of the Society of Urban Monk, which is an ecumenical and multi-denominational community of men and women who are involved in community service and are committed to integrating their experiences of service into their spiritual lives through individual and collective spiritual practices.
