OBC Guiding Principles

Have you ever wondered if you were doing this whole parenting a baby thing “right”? Are friends, family, and the Internet giving you conflicting advice leaving you feeling confused and without true support? Well OBC is here to tell you: you are doing just fine. At the very heart of Our Baby Class is this idea that if you follow your instincts and do what works for you and your family, you are doing it right. The following values lie at the core of every OBC class and in the hearts of its teachers, founders, and hopefully each of our students too:

1. Trust your instincts.
2. You can’t spoil a baby.
3. If what you are doing is working for you, your partner, and your baby, great! Keep doing it!
4. If what you are doing is not working for you, your partner, or your baby, it’s ok! You can change it!
5. There are no magical times when you must start or stop something.
6. No habit you create now is irreversible.
7. And never forget, trust your instincts!

About OBC
Becoming a parent is one of life’s biggest transitions. Often you find yourself without a community of peers to guide you through. Our Baby Class (OBC) creates that village for you, bringing together families in your community with babies around the same age as yours; together you will have a guiding mentor, your teacher, to help you find your way through some of babyhood’s most challenging topics.

OBC trains teacher-mentors to provide classes on a variety of parenting topics ranging from how to take care of yourself and your baby in the first days and weeks after birth; to what “normal” infant sleep looks like; to successfully parenting as a team with your partner; to introducing solid food; to returning to work; and everything in between. OBC teachers offer a series of Core Classes as well as individual Specialty Classes. All classes are taught by local certified OBC instructors usually in their own homes. Each two-hour class is designed to provide simple and practical parenting support as well as a safe space to ask questions and share experiences.
