Otsego County's 15th Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 8:00AM - 2:00PM. It will be held at the Otsego County Meadows Office Complex located on County Route 33W, 4 miles south of Cooperstown. The Event will be held for all residents of Otsego, Montgomery, and Schoharie County.
Registration for the event will take place between August 29th - September 11th. You must register by 5:00PM on Septemeber 11th. You may register by filling out the form on this website, or you may also call our office at (607) 547-4228. While registering you will be asked if you would prefer to have you Registration & Waiver form e-mailed or mailed. Once you recieve this form you will be required to fill it out and bring it with you to the event. Included on the form will be information regarding what you may and may not bring, as well as your appointment time that you choose while registering. Please read all information carefully and be sure to show up at your scheduled time. Otsego County Small Businesses see information below.
The following types of wastes will be accepted (not exclusive):
--pesticides, herbicides, insecticides --paints, paint thinners, stains and varnishes
--solvents, cleaners and degreasers --all batteries (auto, household)
--photographic and pool chemicals --driveway sealers
--polishes and floor care products --adhesives and glues
--acids and caustics --unbroken florescent bulbs
--empty propane tanks (<40 lbs.) --lubricants (not including motor oil)
--antifreeze, brake fluids, old fuels --charcoal lighters
--poisons and fertilizers --pharmaceuticals (see below)
The following WILL NOT be accepted:
--medical wastes (biohazard, red bag or infectious) --smoke detectors
--pyrophoric material (air ignited) --radioactive waste
--explosives or ammunition --syringes
--shock sensitive (pyric acid, crystalized ethers) --HOME ELECTRONICS
--motor oil (retailers will accept)
Please note: If hazardous waste containers are empty, dried out, or contents are completely hardened, dispose of them in your regular trash. LATEX PAINT in good condition will be collected, re-mixed and distributed to non-profit organizations. Unusable latex paint should be opened, dried out and put in regular trash disposal. Cat litter or soil added to the can will help dry out larger amounts. Unusable latex paint hinders the efficiency of our paint recycling effort and should not be brought to our collection event.
PHARMACEUTICALS that will be accepted include: controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter substances; expired or unexpired substances; liquid, pills, powders or patches; ointments, inhalers and vitamins. NO SYRINGES. Delivery should be in some small container, preferably the original device (no loose items).

**There will also be a collection event held on Friday, September 14th for Otsego County Small Businesses. Any businesses interested must call our office to register between August 29th - September 11th. While registering you will be required to give a list of the materials you wish to bring. The first $50 will be subsidized by the County.**
