CPR & 1st Aid:
Each scout will be trained in pediatric CPR and First Aid based on the advanced research from American Heart Association. They will follow an instructor and video led training that will break down the importance of CPR and what steps to follow all while practicing every step. They will be tested on their skills and if successful, will receive a CPR and First Aid Certification Card from American Heart Association.
Medication Administration Training:
We will cover the importance of properly dispensing and administering medication. We will review the risk if medication is not provided properly. Each scout must pass a medication dispensing station where they learn how to properly pour medication in different dispensers, such as, droppers, cups, spoons, inhalers and breathing treatments. The material they will learn is the exact same information taught to licensed child care providers in order for them to administer medication in day care centers.
American Academy of Pediatrics & Bright Futures:
We help the scouts implement Bright Futures principles, guidelines and tools to provide the absolute best practice of child care. Bright Futures offers many different resources in improving and maintaining the health of all children and adolescents.
Q & A Session:
We offer the girls to ask all the questions they want about being a babysitter. This session allows them to work out any fears or concerns they have and is usually a great time to learn about the type of babysitting they are interested in. Some girls only want to babysit toddlers, while others are ready to babysit infants. This session enforces the importance of communication between all parents and the babysitter, and making sure everyone is comfortable.
In this session, we review how to interview to be a babysitter, how to ask the right questions for each family you babysit for, and how to let people know you’re ready to babysit because of your training. Girls will get an info folder that contains a family info sheet, questions to ask before accepting a job and a safety checklist.
Each girl will get a babysitting bag that contains a folder for paperwork, pamphlets, and an emergency tips flip chart.
