Public Policy Means Us . . . the Public!
Use your voice in support of good, clean and fair food.
Join us at the table to learn more about engaging our public officials in the quest for good food policies. It’s an undeniable fact – no farms, no food. It’s also a fact that many of our small family farms are struggling to make it in this industrialized factory-farm-dominated food system.
Here in Oregon we have some of the best farmland in the country. It’s great to buy our food at the farmers market and grocery stores dedicated to local farmers and ranchers – but that’s not enough. We need to do more. We need to use our collective voices to protect small-scale sustainable food producers and ensure our regional farmers have a viable future.
By the end of this workshop you will understand how a bill becomes a law in Oregon. You will earn how to influence the process at the Oregon Legislature. And you will come away with a better understanding of some of the most important small farm and local food issues currently up for debate in Salem and how you can make a difference. Ivan Maluski, Policy Director for Friends of Family Farmers will lead this fun, informative and empowering workshop.
Take your love of food and appreciation of farms to a new level – join us for an evening of ideas, conversation, and take-aways that will help put “public” back in public policy.
Bring a sweet or savory snack for all to enjoy. After all, food is what we are fighting for – let’s enjoy it!
