Established in 1997, the JUNO nominated Orchid Ensemble is Lan Tung on the erhu/Chinese violin, Yu-Chen Wang on the zheng/Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard on percussion. The ensemble blends ancient musical instruments and traditions from China and beyond, creating a beautiful new sound. The ensemble has embraced a variety of musical styles to its repertoire, ranging from the traditional and contemporary music of China, World Music, New Music to Jazz and Creative Improvisation. The energetic yet endearing performance style of the ensemble consistently intrigues and delights its audiences. Acclaimed as ‘One of the brightest blossoms on the world music scene’ (The Georgia Straight), the Orchid Ensemble has been tirelessly developing an innovative musical genre based on the cultural exchange between Western and Asian musicians.
Built in 1914 and opened the following year, the historic The Colonial Theatre in Bethlehem, NH is reputedly the oldest continuously operating movie theatre in the country. Given new life in 2001 as a non-profit community cultural center presenting independent cinema, world class music and high quality family entertainment, the 300 seat The Colonial Theatre offers an intimate and authentic entertainment experience. Beer and wine are served at most age appropriate events and intermission with a cold beverage on our 1,400 square foot covered patio is what summer is all about. Come join us and be part of it!
The Colonial Theatre is owned and operated by The Friends of The Colonial, a 501(c)3 tax exempt, fiscally responsible non-profit corporation, managed and run by a volunteer Board of Directors and a professional staff. All contributions are tax deductible to the full extent allowable by law.
