Since 1994, Stuart has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Colorado Mining Association (CMA). The CMA, established in 1876, is a trade association whose more than 1,000 members include producers of coal, metals, uranium, agricultural and industrial minerals; service providers and suppliers. CMA serves as the advocate for the responsible development and use of our state’s mineral resources. Mining accounts for more than $8.8 billion in revenue for Colorado and more than 73,000 jobs. He is a nationally recognized spokesman for the Colorado mining industry, authored many guest editorials and/or letters that have appeared in the Denver Post, the Wall Street Journal and other publications. He has appeared frequently on radio and television news programs, including Colorado Public Radio, the PBS News Hour, and Comcast Television. In Colorado, he has led the effort to enact laws and regulations promoting environmentally responsible resource development using the latest technologies.
Stuart graduate from the American University’s Washington College of Law in 1976, and was admitted to practice in three states and several federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. He received his B. A. degree in political science from the University of Rochester in 1973.
