The Art Directors Club (), the premier organization for creatives in integrated media and the first global creative collective of its kind, will host NEW YORK TYPES - A Village Voice Production, a letterpress art exhibition which brings to life real words heard by locals on the streets of New York. These snippets of real New Yorkers conversations, quotes and stories will be presented on the walls of the ADC Gallery by some of the city’s leading letterpress artists.
NEW YORK TYPES, running December 15, 2011 through January 5, 2012, is presented in collaboration with New York Writes Itself (NYWI) - A Village Voice Production (http://www.newyorkwritesitself.com/), a new ongoing series of creative productions fueled by the people of New York, and Leo Burnett New York (www.lbny.com)
For the NEW YORK TYPES exhibition, each artist or group -- currently including Swayspace, Center for the Book Arts, The KDU, Peter Kruty Editions and Tarhorse Press -- has picked a collection of NYWI ‘Script’ entries to interpret in his or her own letterpress style, bringing the real words to life letter by letter. The artwork is for sale in limited editions of 10, with a total of 500 pieces for sale.
NEW YORK TYPES opens with a party on Thursday, December 15, 6:30 pm-10:30 pm EST, at the ADC Gallery, 106 West 29th St., NYC. When & Where
New York Writes Itself
There's no greater theater than the people of New York City.
The colorful characters, the voices we hear and the scenes we witness. What if we could capture these great moments we witness everyday, and re-create them as amazing pieces of creativity?
'New York Writes Itself' is an ongoing series of creative productions fueled by the real people of New York - what people see and hear in the city is recorded as a 'script', which forms the inspiration for music, creative writing, art exhibitions and more.
This is a project for every New Yorker - a celebration of the amazing collection of people that make New York, New York. A city which truly 'writes itself'.
