Monday Night Open Mic! A Busboys and Poetry Event For two hours audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week.
Joseph LMS Green is a Washington, D.C.-based performance artist and educator with more than nine years professional experience. As a solo artist Joseph LMS has performed at venues and schools throughout the United States. A four-time qualifier and participant in the National Poetry Slam, he has represented the Oneonta Slam team as their Grand Slam Champion (twice, 2005-06), as well as Slam Richmond (2009),
and DC’s Beltway Poetry Slam Team (2011, ranked 5th in the nation). As the Beltway Poetry Slam representative at the Individual World Poetry Slam in 2011, Joseph ranked 16th out of 80 poets from across the nation.
For five years, he has coached the Hayfield Secondary School Forensic Speech Team. As an actor he toured with the educational entertainment group Theatre IV, the country’s largest in school touring company. He toured two and a half years at more than 200 high schools and professional theatres educating children and families.
His one-man show, “She Is,” was commissioned by the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts at the Wilbur Mansion in Oneonta, N.Y. (2007). He has self-published a poetry chapbook called “Her and Everything Else” (2010), and a poetry album entitled “Unmastered – Vol. One” (2005).
Joseph LMS Green is currently producing his first full-length book of poetry and recording his second full-length spoken word album. He is also working to further establish “poetry.N.O.W.” the afterschool creative writing program he co-founded in Northern Virginia.
The Cave Canem Fellow is the author of several books including Swag & Dear Twitter: Love Letters Hashed Out On-line, recommended by Small Press Distribution & listed as About.com Best Poetry Books of 2010. She has released five LPs including the live album Sheroshima. As co-founder of the Off Broadway poetry production, Jam On It, and co-producer of NYC’s 1st Performance Poetry Festival: SoundBites Poetry Festival, Mahogany bridges the gap between lyrical poets and literary emcee. Browne has toured Germany, Amsterdam, England, Canada and recently Australia as 1/3 of the cultural arts exchange project Global Poetics. Her journalism work has been published in magazines Uptown, KING, XXL, The Source, Canada's The Word and UK's MOBO.
