Thursday Night Open Mic! A Busboys and Poetry Event For two hours audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week.
Eric "E-Baby" Smith began writing and reciting poetry, in July 2000, with 95.5 WPGC’s Thursday Night Love Talk & Poetry Café. Since then, he’s opened for R&B artists Musiq Soul Child, Me’shell N’degeOcello, Heather Headley, & Lyfe Jennings to name a few. After meeting his agent Tracy Wiggs of Jus Wiggin Entertainment in 2002; he’s featured his poetry, hosted poetry shows, and taught classes as a special guest instructor at over 200 colleges & universities across the US. He’s performed on cable programs; plus invited to conferences and festivals to entertain audiences. E-Baby has competed in, and won, numerous poetry slams from Virginia to New York within his poetical career. In 2011, he was nominated for the Male Spokenword Performance Artist of the Year by the National Underground Spokenword & Poetry Association. and currently touring the country with his 2 CDs: "My Thoughts Are In This Ink" & "Inktoxicated.
Also, an employee of the Library of Congress, he preaches the importance of Copyright and gives out information on how to properly register your written work into the U.S. Copyright Office. In between college dates, his 9-5, and features in the Washington DC area; he also schedules out of town performances at poetry venues across the country. Hermione Rhones is a native Washingtonian who makes her living as a working artist/instructor. She brings a unique blend of truth, humor and love to all of her artistic endeavors. She is a dancer, a poet, a crafter, a movement teacher, water aerobics instructor, yoga instructor, body/energy worker and an arts educator. She is proud to have studied and/or worked with artists such as: Tony Powell, Sylvia Soumah, Carla Perlo, Reggie Glass, Sherrill Berryman Johnson; and organizations such as Dance Place and Joe’s Movement Emporium over the past 16 years.
As she is a professional dancer, Hermione often blends spoken word with movement and/or visual artworks to create interesting audio/visual landscapes for her work. Her poetry is smooth and easy on the ears and yet thought and feeling provoking.
