Tuesday Night Open Mic! A Busboys and  Poetry Event   For two hours audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week.

Gowri K. is a Sri Lankan Tamil American poet and lawyer. Her advocacy has addressed animal welfare, the environment, and the rights of prisoners and the criminally accused. She has co-authored two peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and her poetry has been published in Beltway Poetry Quarterly, Bourgeon, and Lantern Review. Gowri was a member of the 2010 DC Southern Fried Slam team and has performed at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. She hosts open mics at Busboys and Poets and BloomBars, where she serves as poetry coordinator. Gowri is a co-founder and communications consultant with Making It Slam and a poetry editor with Jaggery: A DesiLit Arts and Literature Journal. She tweets on-the-spot haiku @gowricurry.

EkaAnirudh ‘Eka’ Dhullipalla is a poet born in Hyderabad, India and raised in Minnesota and North Carolina. Eka can't remember when he really "started" writing poetry, but his affair with spoken word began in 2008. As a founding member of Sacrificial Poets, the North Carolina Youth Slam Team, he joined them on their first trip to Brave New Voices in Washington, DC. It was an amazing and eye opening event and from then on he could not put down the pen. Since then Eka has featured in several venues across North Carolina, Atlanta, London, New York and Washington, D.C. His work has evolved from more slam-oriented pieces to works focused on spiritual growth. He is thankful for all the love and support he gets on and off the stage. He is humbled by every moment an ear has given him because words are just sounds coming out of throats until someone chooses to give them meaning. To him, the listener is the artist, the poet just brings the paint. He can be found at
