Tuesday Night Open Mic ! A Busboys and Poetry Event. For two hours audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week.
Tonight's host is PAGES
PAGES is a poet and emcee originally from Cameroon, Africa. His features have included The Kennedy Center; colleges and universities such as Columbia University; & BETJ Lyric Café. He has touched stages with the likes of Ainsley Burrows, Oveous Maximus, opened for Raheem DeVaughn, Afrika Bambaata, and many others. He is also founder and co-president of Da Movement Poetz, a performance based arts group geared towards reaching mainly young adults via the arts. In addition to winning multiple local slams, he is also the 2010 DC Grand Slam Champion, and co-hosts GraffitiDC, one of D.C.’s newest ground-breaking premier Slam Series presented by Beny Blaq Ent.

Tonight's featured poet is Clarence E. Wright
Clarence E. Wright is a writer, speaker and faith leader possessing the rare ability to translate the charismatic fervor of the pulpit to various subject matters across sacred and secular lines.
A veteran of the Philadelphia poetry scene and the National Poetry Slam community, the former Urban Word Grand Slam Champion in Trenton, NJ and winner of the “5th Wheel” championship at the 2002 National Poetry Slam in Minneapolis, he made his impact on the spoken word community before taking a long hiatus.
Since returning to performance poetry he has been active as the 2011 Philadelphia Grand Slam champion, a semifinalist at the legendary Nuyorican Poet’s Café in New York, a member of the 2011 and 2012 Philadelphia Fuze Poetry Slam teams, the 2012 Philadelphia IWPS representative as well as a member of the inaugural Philadelphia Pigeon Poetry Slam team. He is also the coach/mentor for the Constitution High School Poetry Team, part of the Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement’s High School Slam League. The author of 4 volumes of poetry his subject matter has spanned everything from societal issues to religion and relationships.
Outside of poetry he has over 15 years of experience in the non-profit sector including; international missions, homeless advocacy, community economic development, church planting and pastoral leadership. He is currently the site manager and director of outreach for Chosen 300 Ministries, an international missions organization with sites in 8 countries. In this capacity he works directly with 75 partner organizations to serve more than 100,000 meals a year to the homeless of Philadelphia and distribute over 25,000 pounds of food to developing nations per year. He is also the planting pastor of the Gathering of Love, an innovative new fellowship in Philadelphia that integrates the spoken word and other art into worship. Finally he is an accomplished musician with 20 years experience as a Gospel keyboardist/organist, worship leader, choir director and songwriter.
He has a BA from Temple University in World Religions and Urban Studies, a certificate in non profit
management from LaSalle University and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Missional Theology. A husband, a father and a man of faith all of which create a diverse body of life experience to draw from in his work.
