Open Data Day Oakland
Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (PST)
Join OpenOakland, Code for America and the City of Oakland and a global gathering of community, data geeks, technologists, activists and government staff for International Open Data Day!
We're spending a full day together to hack on public data, uncover new public data and liberate it, built tools, apps or visualizations to help explain data and to connect our community and government through innovative uses of open data.
Our venue is a fantastic new public library with fast wifi and a great space for us to collaborate. However the location (kindly provided by the City of Oakland) is almost a mile walk form BART (the Coliseum stop) and half a mile from the closest bus stop. So we encourage you to consider car pooling (feel free to use our facebook page to connect and plan this!) or contact us if you do want a ride from BART to the venue and we can shuttle groups if needed. Or get on yo bike! Hacking and exercise in the same day?? Noooooo.
We'll provide nutritous, tasty lunch for all, snacks and beverages. You provide your data wrangling, designing, creating skills and ideas how to leverage the new open data available in Oakland and Alameda County!
Check our event page for updates!
Who should come?
Developers, Designers, Librarians, Statisticians, Spatial Analysts & Citizens- we need you all!
What will the day look like?
We're asking city staff, developers and community members to submit their ideas for projects on the day: Share yours!
- If you are a city employee with an idea for a new app, data visualization, analysis then share that idea, especially if you can provide the data to make it happen!
- If you are a city staffer, comunity member, nonprofit and you have a data project please share your idea, come along and bring your data!
- If you want to learn more about how to access newly public (open) data come along to explore with us!
- The only rule for open data day is that if you bring data for us to hack on, build with or analyse, it must be made open/public on the day. We can do this for you, and if you have sensitive data we can scrub it or aggregate it so it's safe for public release!
