Event Details

One Million Bones: New Orleans is hoping to inspire your sponsorship to send 8 deserving students to D.C. for the One Million Bones National Mall Installation. All proceeds from this gala will go towards an all-expenses paid trip for the students, including transportation, lodging, and food.

For the past year, these students have been addressing the issue of local violence. Now they need your support in seeing their work displayed at the nation's capital.

Ways in which you can support them are:

1. Attend the event

2. Buy a framed photo on display

3. Give a personal donation

Refreshments will be provided by Capedeville.

The Students:

These eight local students have been committed members of OMB: NOLA. Students have brought the project into their schools, showed an expressed interest in conflicts abroad, and dedicated countless volunteer hours towards making an impact both locally and globally. To say ‘thank you,’ we have selected 8 students to represent New Orleans in the culminating National Installation.

To meet our wonderful students, please watch this compelling video!

Project Description:

One Million Bones is a social arts initiative geared towards raising awareness of genocides and humanitarian conflicts though art and education. OMB has encouraged communities, internationally, to create ceramic bones that symbolize that each human being has the power to defend the unalienable right to life. In addition to raising awareness, OMB also raised $500,000 to CARE’s on the ground relief efforts in Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo donated by the Bezos Family Foundation.

The New Orleans chapter felt a special connection to this initiative given the high level of street violence in our community, experienced daily. After our successful 50k bones installation in Congo Square, we decided to focus our efforts on youth in underserved schools. In these schools, we have discussed with students sources of conflict, conflict resolution, global awareness, and youth empowerment. Following the 50k installation, NOLA youth contributed close to 20,000 bones.

With 70,000 bones, sculpted, fired, packed, and shipped to D.C., all that’s left to do is send 8 outstanding future community leaders to participate in a national movement against violence.
