Saturday, June 2
5am - 6pm
Registration must be received by noon on the Tuesday before the sitting.
One-day sittings at Green Gulch offer traditional Soto Zen all-day meditation practice. Formal oryoki meals are served in the zendo. Please be in the zendo by 4:50 am. Participants are welcome to stay for an informal dinner at 6 pm.
If you have not recently participated in a one-day sitting at Zen Center, please contact the head of the meditation hall before you register with the office via email (preferred) or 415.354.0424.
In order to understand the nature of our formal retreats, and to be clear about the details of the practice, please review a typical one-day sitting schedule, as well as our guidelines for zendo conduct. We ask those who attend one-day sittings to commit to following these guidelines and to participating in the schedule completely. If you have questions regarding the schedule or guidelines, please consult with the Head of the Meditation Hall, the Ino via email before completing your registration.
Please indicate the following when registering:
- Is this your first formal one-day sitting at Zen Center?
- Will you bring an oryoki set or will you need a tray for meals?
- Will you need to use a chair throughout the day?
The zendo is sometimes available for sleeping the night before the One-Day Sitting. The night before is included in the fee for the One-Day Sitting. It may also be possible to stay the night after the sitting for an additional $20, if space is available. Inquire when you register. You will need to speak with the Ino and provide your own bedding.
Current Zen Center members receive a 10% discount. Members at the Dharma Pillar and Dharma Lamp level receive complimentary access (advance registration is required). For more information about membership, visit the membership section of our web site or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

When & Where
San Francisco Zen Center (SFZC)
Established in 1962 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and his American students, San Francisco Zen Center is a Soto Zen Buddhist community with three practice places in the SF Bay Area: City Center, an urban temple in the heart of San Francisco; Green Gulch Farm, in Marin County, where fertile fields meet the ocean; and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, the first Zen training monastery in the West, in the Ventana Wilderness inland from Big Sur. At San Francisco Zen Center, zazen, study, and work practice are available to a diverse population of students, visitors, lay people, priests, and monks. All are welcome!
