Join us to hear from Eli Lewis, Ph.D., who is breaking new ground in seeking a cure for type 1 diabetes. His focus is on improving the survival and function of insulin-producing cells in people with diabetes. Dr. Lewis and his team recently discovered a common, easily accessible drug that in animal models can protect these cells, reverse diabetes and restore glucose control. Three clinical human trials have recently been completed with very promising initial results. Dr. Lewis has been awarded important research grants by groups including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the Israel
Dr. Eli Lewis is Ben-Gurion University of the Negev's Ilse Katz Career Development Chair in Health Sciences Research; Senior Lecturer, Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Pharmacology; and
Director, Clinical Islet Laboratory.
